The Autumn Jewellery Edit 2026: Colour, Layers & a Little Wildness

Autumn 2026 is less about following rules and more about finding the pieces that feel distinctly yours. From jewel-toned colour and sculptural silver to symbolic motifs and jewellery worn over layers, this season invites a little more personality.

There is something about the arrival of autumn that changes the way we dress. The fabrics become richer, the colours deeper and the layers return. Jewellery changes with them.

This season, we are drawn to pieces that don't disappear into an outfit. Rings curl around the finger, silver catches against soft knitwear, coloured stones interrupt autumn neutrals, and familiar symbols are reimagined in unexpected ways.

The Return of Colour

Forget the idea that autumn belongs exclusively to brown, black and beige.

Vogue's Fall 2026 colour report points towards a much more expressive season, with electric blue, vibrant red, royal purple, burgundy and even turquoise appearing throughout the collections.

For jewellery, this makes colour particularly exciting.

Rather than matching jewellery perfectly to an outfit, we like the idea of allowing one unexpected colour to interrupt it.

Nature is never very far from jewellery. But this season, natural references feel less delicate and a little more untamed.

Town & Country's report from Couture 2026 highlights the playful character running through many of the season's most interesting jewels, while the wider fashion conversation continues to embrace pieces with personality and storytelling.

The snake feels particularly right for this mood.

One of jewellery's most enduring symbols, it has long been associated with transformation and renewal, making it an intriguing piece to wear as one season turns into another.

We love it even more when the interpretation isn't too perfect: sculptural, unusual and unmistakably individual.

Silver Against Soft Layers

Gold will always have its place, but this autumn silver is demanding attention again.

PORTER's Fall 2026 jewellery edit identifies cool-toned metals as one of the season's key jewellery directions, particularly when worn against autumnal colours and textures.

And perhaps that's exactly why silver suddenly feels so fresh.

Think polished silver against cashmere. Sculptural earrings with an oversized coat. A statement ring emerging from a long sleeve. Cool metal against chocolate, camel, charcoal or burgundy.

The contrast is simple, but incredibly effective.

This is also the season to experiment with scale. Instead of several tiny pieces competing for attention, try one strong cuff, an architectural ring or a pair of sculptural earrings.

Jewellery Over Layers

Summer makes jewellery easy. Autumn makes it interesting.

Once knitwear, jackets, shirts and coats return, jewellery becomes part of the layering itself.

Long pendants can sit over a fine knit. A cuff can become the punctuation mark at the end of a sleeve. Brooches can transform a blazer or coat. Rings become more noticeable against gloves, cuffs and darker fabrics.

Vogue's Fall 2026 accessory report also points to a more eclectic approach to charms and pendants, including pieces layered over knits and shirts.

Our approach? Don't over-plan it.

Mix something precious with something playful. Wear silver beside gold. Put a contemporary piece next to something you've owned for years.

The most interesting jewellery combinations rarely look as though they arrived as a matching set.

The Statement Ring Is Back

Perhaps our favourite way to approach autumn jewellery is through the ring.

A statement ring requires almost no styling. It works with denim and a sweater during the day, tailoring at work and a black dress in the evening.

But statement doesn't necessarily mean enormous.

It can be an unusual silhouette, an unexpected stone, a sculptural setting or simply a design that makes you look twice.

This is where independent jewellery designers become particularly exciting. Without the need to make everything instantly recognisable, they can experiment with proportion, symbolism, materials and form.

The result feels less like choosing an accessory and more like discovering an object.

Jewellery Is Becoming Personal Again

One of the most interesting movements in jewellery right now has little to do with a particular metal or gemstone.

It is the desire for individuality.

Even in the traditionally conservative world of engagement jewellery, tastes are shifting. ELLE's 2026 engagement-ring report highlights growing interest in coloured gemstones, sculptural settings, unusual cuts and rings chosen for personal meaning rather than conformity.

We think that idea extends far beyond bridal jewellery.
